Doom-filled warnings arrive from AT&T this week. The company says that without substantial investment in network infrastructure, the Internet will essentially run out of bandwidth in just two short years.

Blame broadband, says AT&T. Decades of dealing with the trickle of bandwidth consumed by voice and dialup modems left AT&T twiddling its thumbs. The massive rise of DSL and cable modem service in the 2000s has had AT&T facing a monstrous increase in the volume of data transmissions. And that’s set to increase another 50 times between now and 2015. That’s enough, says AT&T, to all but crash the system.

In response, AT&T says it’s investing $19 billion to upgrade the backbone of the Internet, the routers, servers, and connections where the bulk of traffic is processed.

Of course, AT&T is using this breathlessness in part to point fingers beyond simple broadband use. Web video (especially high-definition video) is the most commonly mentioned bandwidth hog. AT&T says video alone will eat up 80 percent of traffic in two years vs. just 30 percent now. One wonders how YouTube doesn’t collapse under the pressure. Hmmm.

Meanwhile, many are wondering whether this is prelude to AT&T announcing (or not announcing, but doing anyway) a traffic prioritization/shaping system like Comcast has been tinkering with… and which has earned it nothing but scorn. Net neutrality (which would forbid premium pricing for certain Internet applications and destinations) is a topic that continues to be hotly debated on Capitol Hill, and telcos are anxious to kill the idea since they’d love to be able to charge additional money for different kinds of web traffic. If the whole Internet is about to crash, well, that makes AT&T’s argument all the more compelling, doesn’t it?

Ragnarok Online or widely known as RO, is a massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) by Gravity Co., Ltd. The game is based on the comic book Ragnarok by a Korean autor, Lee Myung-Jin. The game was first released on 2002 in its home base, South Korea.

The game is mainly based on a Norse mythology but the storyline has been modified and has a Christian and Asian culture influence. There is also an animated series created called Ragnarok the Animation. Some servers are pay-to-play while others are free-to-play. There are also free private servers which have a higher experience and drop rate rather than the official server.

The base of Ragnarok Online is on its job system. Each character starts with a novice character. When they reach level 10, they are able to choose their first job class. They can choose classes such as swordman, mage, thief and many more. The next job class would be the second job class. The class that the player has chosen on the first job change would be upgraded to the secondary level.

After getting a base level of 99, they would then rebirth back to level 1 and would then upgrade themselves to the transcendent class. This class is the final class available to the character.

The Player vs. Player or PvP in this game is different from other online games. Instead of being able to kill at anytime in any map, the players will have to go on a PvP map to be able to do so. They would have to talk to the PvP master and then warped to a mock town map for PvP. There are two types of PvP available.

Players are also able to join guilds and every guild is permitted to join the guild wars or the War of Emperium (WoE). WoE could happen in any two hours of the week which depends on the configuration of the server. The guilds would fight for a number of castles available in the game.

To gain control of the castle, the guild would have to reach their way on the fourth floor of the castle and destroy the Emperium. The War of Emperium is probably the most famous feature in the game and could also be one of the reasons on how the game still stands till today. Most players take place in it at least once a week while addicts join every one of them.

The graphic of the game might be a little to childish for a hardcore gamer but for some casual gamers, the graphic might be the least on what is on their mind. It is the gameplay and the WoE which unites the players and members on the guild to do their best in the game. Online games are always one of the best ways to get new friends but be careful not to make a lot of enemies in the virtual world. You might have too much of them already.

WASHINGTON - For 46,000 Catholics, it was a Mass like no other, with the altar standing on centerfield at a ballpark and the presiding clergyman arriving in a bulletproof vehicle.

But Pope Benedict XVI’s Mass in the nation’s capital Thursday was also different from a typical service in another way: Lay people were not asked to distribute Communion, which was administered exclusively by 300 priests and deacons.

Organizers of the Mass at Nationals Park were only following the letter of church law. But to some Roman Catholics, the ceremony was symbolic of what they see as Benedict’s desire to erect clear boundaries between clergy and lay people.

“What he wants to do really is to reinforce the old categories and classifications — different roles for different people,” said David Gibson, author of books on Benedict and the future of the U.S. church.

“Men and women, priests and lay people. Each one has their role according to their talents, their ordained status in the church.”

The clear division of roles doesn’t sit well with all American Catholics, who are used to living in a democracy. Some would like a greater say in church affairs, including choosing their parish priests. Others cherish the distinct roles held by clergy and point to several examples of the two working together in harmony.

Lawyers for George Lucas’ Lucasfilm Ltd. and a British prop designer faced off in London’s High Court Tuesday over rights to the molded white Stormtrooper uniforms from the “Star Wars” films.

Standing alongside the bewigged, black-robed lawyers in court was the object of their dispute a 6-foot tall, helmeted warrior of the evil Galactic Empire. Lucasfilm attorney Michael Bloch called the menacing figure “one of the most iconic images in modern culture.”

Lucasfilm claims violation of copyright and trademarks by prop designer Andrew Ainsworth, who sculpted the Stormtrooper helmets for the first “Star Wars” movie in 1977. London-based Ainsworth sells replicas of the helmets and armor, which he says are made from the original molds, on his Web site.

Lucasfilm won a $20 million judgment against Ainsworth in a California court in 2006, and is seeking to have it enforced in Britain.

Three Filipino world champions boomed with their fists yesterday, scoring abbreviated victories to retain their titles at the Araneta Coliseum.
Leading the Filipino charge was Gerry Peñalosa, who remained on track for high-profile fights against high-profile fighters by hammering out an eighth round stoppage of Thailand’s Ratanachai Sor Vorapin to retain his World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight title.

Peñalosa’s win capped the celebration of similar knockout wins by Rey Bautista and AJ Banal.

Bautista knocked out Genaro Camargo of Mexico in the second round to keep his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Intercontinental Jr. featherweight title while Banal stopped Caril Herrera of Uruguay in the fourth round to remain the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Intercontinental Jr. bantamweight titlist. “I feel sorry for Vorapin because only one of us is going to win,” said the 35-year-old Peñalosa, looking in the direction of Sor Vorapin, whose face looked like a Halloween mask.

Fighting for the first time in eight months, Peñalosa rained blows with the 31-year-old challenger, forcing Chicago-based Puerto Rican referee Genaro Rodriguez to call a mercy halt at the 2:31 mark of the eighth round.

Peñalosa had Sor Vorapin, who lost to the Filipino pug in six rounds nearly seven years ago, down earlier but the Thai told the referee that he was okay.

But it turned out to be a costly mistake as the Filipino pounced on him like a leopard on a hapless prey.

Peñalosa told mediamen that he “got hurt a few times” but his will to win propeled him to victory.

“He hit me with good shots and I felt hurt but when you badly want to win, you can take punishment,” said Peñalosa, who is drooling over the prospects of meeting Daniel Ponce de Leon of Mexico for the second time sometime in July.

“Rey, let me take care of him first,” Peñalosa said, glancing at super-bantam Rey Bautista, who is also aching to get it on with Ponce De Leon.

“I am not getting any younger,” said Peñalosa, who had won the WBO title by halting Mexican Johnny Gonzalez last August at the Arco Arena in Sacramento, California.

Bautista, who knocked out his Mexican foe earlier, is also training his sights on Ponce De Leon, who dealt him a vicious first round knockout loss last year.

While Bautista is raring to avenge his only loss, Peñalosa looks to be the more worthy foe for De Leon.

Trainer Freddie Roach gave a grade of 10 for Peñalosa’s performance although he was a bit worried when his prized puncher at 118 lbs appeared to have relaxed after the fourth round.

“He could have got the guy a lot sooner if he put the pressure on the guy but he took his time and I told Gerry that we should take this guy out before something happens like we got cut or something,” said Roach, who flew in from Los Angeles six hours earlier to be in the corner.

“It was a beautiful performance and it showed that he is truly a great technician,” added the 48-year-old Roach.

Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) vice president Eric Gomez, whose Los Angeles-based outfit staged the slugfest in coordination with ABS-CBN, ALA Boxing Club and SGG Promotions, said things are looking up for Peñalosa.

“Very good performance for Peñalosa and as we have promised, we are going to look at the best fights for him,” said Gomez, who is being assisted here by GBP Chief Operating Officer David Istkowich and publicity chief Ramiro Gonzalez in the absence of GBP owner and president, Oscar De La Hoya.

The win raised Peñalosa’s win-loss-draw card to 53-6-2 with 36 knockouts, while the defeat dropped Sor Vorapin’s ledger to 72-10 with 48 wins inside the distance.

Aside from De Leon, Peñalosa also wants to square off with another fancied Mexican, Rafael Marquez, younger brother of Juan Manuel.

But first thing’s first. On the horizon is the dreaded De Leon.
